Recent US studies has shown that around 70% of the people do not get the proper rest they need every night. It is thought that this is one of the primary reasons for the significant increases people are suffering poor health, depression and so on it may also be in part to blame for the almost epedemic increase of obesity in Americans of all ages.

Getting a good nights rest will help you keep your health in good condition. When you lack proper rest, it affects your concentration and your ability to think clearly. To stay healthly you need proper rest, the right amount of the rights sorts of food and at least some exercise daily.

As a person ages the body goes through what is know as senescence, or changes that until middle age have been happening but have largely passed unnoticed.

As the body enters the later half of it’s life it starts to function less effectively and some parts even wear out completely . This is one of many reason we may start to suffer, sleep disorders, including insomnia, sleep apnea and in some cases associated breathing problems.
What you should know:
According to philosophers, theorists, experts, and who is to argue with such an exteemed bunch women are likely to experience insomnia more so than men.

While many men and women find it difficult to fall asleep, they do eventually get to sleep albeit after some tossing and turning for a short while but for some people the problem is more severe and they suffer insomnia, which is far harder on our health and can mean you only get maybe a couple of hours sleep a night.

The problem is sleeping when your body should be awake can seriously hamper your attention, damage your memory and may lead to problems like falling asleep while driving.

One thing which is not widely known is that having too much sleep can also be detrimental to your health and can lead to hypertension and high blood pressure. So getting the right balance is crucial to keep yourself in peak condition for as long as possible.
Another sleeping disorder is sleep apnea which can be quite hard for your doctor to diagnose as it only occurs when sleeping some doctors who suspect patients may have sleep apnea may send them to a sleep clinic but usually it will be a parter who recognises the problem first.

Sleep apnea causes the person to wake up all through the night gasping for air which can be very alarming for both patient and the partner. If your partner tells you that you appear to be suffering from this serious sleeping disorder make sure you get it checked out by your doctor as in rare cases this gasping for air can result in death and may more often be detrimental to your health.
What happens when you have a sleeping disorder

Sleeping disorders, over a period of tine can effect your energy levels and even harm your internal organs as the body needs to rest .

It is thought people who work shifts or have a lot of interupted sleep are more vulnerable to illness and long term health problems. You may experience joint and muscle pain, especially at the legs, or you may snore at night keeping your partner awake. These sort of factors can lead to high risks of illnesses, depression, etc.

To avoid such complications you will need to reduce stress and perhaps seek help for your sleep disorder from your doctor rather than just ignoring it as most people do.
What should I avoid?

When you find it difficult to sleep, try staying away from caffeine after 7 p.m. Avoid nicotine and alcohol also before going to sleep. If you find it difficult to drift into sleep, try counting sheep or anything else (this is to concentrate your mind on a boring repatition you slowly drift asleep)
Some people can fall asleep watching television or listening to music as it slowly lulls you asleep.I don’t suggest you watch an action movie or listen to thrash metal as that will most likely have the opposite effect.

You also should probably avoid eating or any exercise before heading to bed as well. Exercise will boost metabolism and increase adrenalin levels. Eating may cause indigestion and keep you awake.
Handy Sleep Tips:
If you find it difficult to sleep at night, try adjusting the room temperature, especially if you feel uncomfortable. Turn out the lights so that the room is dark, unless you need a night light due to consistent waking at night due to restroom visits.

If you are afraid of the dark, keep in mind that burglars can easily trip in dark areas verses lighted areas. This gives you the advantage of calling for help, since you are aware that someone is in your home.

In conclusion if you find problems with sleeping you are causing your body to age to fast seek medical advice and if necessary taking action to ensure a sound nights sleep.
